Sonéra Audio rack power distro for live sound systems

How to Choose a Power Distro for Your Sound System

Choosing a power distro for your sound system starts with three things: the power source available at your venue, the equipment you need to connect, and the space in your rack. Sonéra Audio offers compact 50A rack models, a 200A Camlock model and a larger rear-rack configuration. This guide compares their listed connections and mounting formats.

What is a power distro?

A power distro is a power distribution unit that provides multiple equipment connections from a supply. The Sonéra Audio models below combine equipment outlets with individual circuit breakers in rack-mount chassis. Their inputs, outlet layouts and monitoring features differ, so choose a model around your actual system requirements.

Rack format and connection comparison
Model Listed input Rack format Key difference
50A 2U Power Distro California twist-lock 2U; 15-inch chassis depth Four PowerCON outputs, two Edison outputs and two voltage displays.
50A 3U Power Distro California twist-lock 3U; 15-inch chassis depth Eight PowerCON outputs in a taller chassis.
200A Camlock Power Distro 200A Camlock 3U; 15-inch chassis depth Voltage/current monitoring and a California twist-lock output.
10U Pro Power Distro 400A Camlock; listed as a three-phase model 10U rear-rack format; 10-inch chassis depth Camlock, California twist-lock, NEMA, PowerCON and Edison connections.

All four models list a standard 19-inch rack mounting width. Review the individual product pages for full specifications and confirm the supplied configuration before ordering.

50A or 200A: start with the available supply

The 50A models use a California twist-lock input; the 200A model uses Camlock connections. These are different configurations, so the larger number alone is not a reason to choose one. Confirm your venue or generator supply, voltage, connectors and equipment load with the qualified professional responsible for your electrical setup. A connector rating does not increase the capacity of the available supply.

2U or 3U: compare the outlet layout

If rack height is limited, compare the 2U model's four PowerCON outputs with your equipment list. The 3U 50A model lists eight PowerCON outputs. Count the connections your setup requires, then check the complete outlet specifications on the product page. Additional outlets do not mean additional upstream power capacity.

Planning a rear-rack installation

For the 10U model, measure the space behind your amplifiers and check the position of your mounting rails. Chassis depth is only part of the fit: plugs and cable routing also need room. Confirm the model's three-phase supply requirements before choosing it for a venue or mobile system.
